    Spare some love

I never thought I’d fall for someone like you,
someone cold, but looking for some room
to grow, and you can grow in my arms.
But in return, I need you to spare me some of your love.
Your love is all I need in my dreams.

You forget how you bled on this floor,
this killing floor, and how I mopped up your hurt.
And you always laugh when I return,
but I ain’t going anywhere until you spare me some of your love.
Your love is all I need in my dreams.

We’re riding down the river of give and take,
and you’ve made sure the current only flows one way.
Tear down your dams and all those bitter walls.
Like a beggar, I’m begging for you to spare me your love.
Your love is all I need in my dreams.

I wrote this song after Kate Nash binging; it features very barebones guitar work and heavy lyricism. Because of the title, I devote it to two blogs with great images of bruises: bruisesbruise and sweetly-soft-kisses. Because of the meaning, I devote it to xthefuckingdistance (which captures the message of this song in its URL and its content). Thanks for the inspiration, bloggers. And I hope you enjoy, everyone! — K.C.

     Bruise

When I say the wrong thing at the wrong time,
and I hurt you even just a little bit,
a big part of me wants to die,
as silly as that sounds.

And I know it ain’t right for me to care that much;
it ain’t right for me to care like I do.
My defenses are down, and I’m bound to get bruised.

But I’ll take the bruises with a smile
if I get to keep you here a while.

You won’t always be here because no one ever is.
All the magic I say you have can’t escape this.
But I won’t run away because you’re brave and stay
even though I may be the one to leave one day.
A day too soon ‘cause any day would be too soon.

REFRAIN
CHORUS

And I get to keep you here a while.
Yeah, love, we’re a timebomb, and we just can’t read the clock.
and I dread the bang, and I dread knowing it could be any day…

It probably ain’t right…
REFRAIN
CHORUS

Were you ever hurt so much by a lover that it made you doubt the next one?

If so, like this post; or even answer the question by telling us a bit about your experience. Elijah Cash is working on a song of hope about just this problem, and we’re looking for people to devote it to. Thanks in advance for sharing. — K.C.

Eli wanted to write a song about how hard it is to believe in love again after getting hurt—because it is for him. But I challenged him to put himself in the other person’s shoes—write from the perspective of the new lover, the one who’s doubted though they’ve never done anything wrong. I think he learned a lot writing these lyrics. This song is devoted to these bloggers who responded to our post about having a hard time loving again after getting hurt: woodlandcreaturesatemypizza, naturesdopeflow, and hai1337. Eli hopes his upbeat plea rings in your ears. Find love everybody! — K.C.

     How Good It Can Be

You doubt my words, baby,
‘cause you’ve heard them before.
But I’m not here to hurt you then leave.
Oh, your pain runs deep,
and you just can’t believe:
I’m not like all those other boys.
And you’re afraid I’ll ask for control,
but, baby, I won’t have to ask:
you’ll hand it over.
‘Cause I know what you don’t know:
I’m not like all those other boys.

And, sugar, I’d like to show you
how good it can be when you love a man like me.
Baby, you lack imagination;
all those bad men stunted your mind.
So, I’m painting this picture,
so you can see how good it can be.

What’d those men do?
Not return your calls?
Or is it that they called other girls?
Well, I don’t even own a phone;
I’ll just read your thoughts.
Oh, you’ve never been with a boy like me.
Did they show up late at night?
Were they loud and drunk?
Well, for you, I’ll sober up.
And we’ll only be loud at night
when you got that need.
Oh, you’ve never been with a boy like me.

CHORUS

I don’t know how else to promise,
how else to make it clear;
I ain’t going to live up to your fears.
‘Cause I’m a man unlike them.
Oh, you’ve never loved a boy like me.

1/2 a bottle of wine + 1/2 a night of feeling sorry for myself = 1 song. Close your eyes and listen. By the second chorus, you should be able to sing along. And feel along? If we can sing along with songs, why couldn’t we feel along? I bet you can with this one. I decided I’d search the #cry tag and dedicate this song to the first cool blogger I found. Jessica of pandywarhol, I hope this song speaks to you on some level because you are beautiful and seem wonderful. Special thanks to everyone who contributed to the lyrical process. Much love. — Kavalier

     Cry, Baby, Cry

I won’t pretend to know how it feels.
But, darlin’, I swear I’ve been hurt, too.
If life’s got you down,
then there’s only one thing left to do.

Cry, baby, cry, baby, cry.
Let it all out and let me in.
And I will soak up your tears.

Bottle it up if you wish,
but don’t act surprised when you explode.
You think it’s a sign of weakness,
but only the brave lighten their load.
CHORUS

Just let them fall, let your tears fall.

Chris asked me to write a song for his girlfriend, Gabrielle; she struggles with suicidal thoughts, and he said music is the only thing that consistently makes her happy. I admit writing this was scary. I wish I believed my music was enough to convince someone to stay with us. All I could do was try. Gabrielle, I’ve never met you, but I know I want you to stay. For Chris, for anyone who may meet you in the future, for yourself. You are too beautiful and full of fascinating stories to go. I don’t need to meet you to know this is true. — Kavalier Calm

     Gabrielle

Gabrielle, I know the reasons seem
few to carry on, but music holds you
still—oh, I beg that you wait,
until my song’s through
to go.

Gabrielle, I can’t read your
mind but I know you’re too kind
to turn away, while I confess my love,
and beg for you to wait
to go.

Gabrielle, this song is my only
spell, and I hope the magic holds you
still until my song’s through.

Gabrielle, I wrote this tune to never
end, til I’m out of breath,
til the night turns to day, I beg you to wait
to go.
