As a lover, I’m a Darwinist…
I scratched the word LOVE on paper yesterday, and noticed backwards it is EVOL…two letters short of EVOLVE. I still write by hand because of magical moments like this that are dependent on the physical, pencil-to-paper experience; letters and words are full of such wonderful coincidences. This coincidence startled me. I always say love is work. It’s something that adapts and changes over time between two people; it survives struggles and becomes stronger, more complex. Many people who can’t find love believe that it will just appear (i.e. love at first sight). That’s a passive, lazy way of finding it. I know it’s not very Romantic or Hollywood-friendly to say that love is something you build with someone you like, but in my experience, that’s the truth. If you are waiting for a Creationist moment—the “And then there was love”—you may be waiting a lifetime. I say you find another Darwinist: someone who wants to fight through the ups and the downs with you; someone who wants to be the fittest with you; someone who wants to survive with you—and for you. — Kavalier Calm
