For this love song, I meshed the requests of two bloggers: youre-the-storm said, “maybe you can write something that suits a girl who’s gift is to make everyone around her happy, even in the darkest hour?” ; and otaku-chan29 said, “A girl who’s too caught up in her own imagination to realize that she’s not alone seems like a good song huh? ^_^”. My mind conjured up a girl who is so bright and creative, she makes everyone around her happy, and I can’t help but fall in love with her. But this girl is unaware of her effect on people, on me; she isn’t amazing for us, but for herself and accidentally. I’d give such a girl this song to wake her to the truth. The backbone is a simple loop of three arpeggiated chords; the art is in the lyrics, the vocals (took some falsetto risks), and the warm reverb solos. I devote this song to youre-the-storm and otaku-chan29 for their requests and to aub-burrito for talking to me about writing. Downloads of this song are available here. Thanks for listening, everyone. — K.C.

     The Gift

You’ve got the gift,
the gift of happiness.
And it’s contagious,
and I’m catching your sickness,
your joy that makes my darkest hours bright.
And I might be falling for you
and your gift.

You’ve spent your whole life in your head,
that warm place where you dream.
Your wild imagination needs an anchor,
let it be me.
‘Cause you may not see, but you are alone,
and I could give you the gift of love.
